About the Artist
Amber Penney's upbringing was steeped in literature and poetry, fostering a profound affection for mythology and the eloquence of written expression. This early love manifested in her artistic endeavors, where she frequently crafted visual representations inspired by characters from the books she cherished in childhood, a passion that persisted into her adult years. As a published poet, Penney draws inspiration for her artwork from the poetic realm, whether it be her own verses or those of others. Delving into the nuances of poetry, she extracts vivid images such as the sensory details or admirable female characters, transforming them into captivating abstract or figurative paintings.
“My art has a dream like feminine quality that is intended to be enjoyed as a visual poem. My intention is no matter what the viewer’s interpretation of my art is, it makes a lasting impression, like a beautiful sonnet that resonates long after reading the last line.” -Amber
Hailing from Michigan, Amber Penney currently resides in a Chicago suburb with her husband Andrew and seven-year-old son, Jude. A self-taught mixed-media artist, she works out of her home studio. Penney also is an accomplished poet; her poetry collection Phases of Flight published in 2023 by Bottlecap Press.
